Bonds, David Bonds: The kid who beat a murder rap in the case of a Mid-city musician--only to be charged less than a month later with attempted murder in a shooting at Canal and St. Charles streets--has been apprehended.
Bonds allegedly shot a 25-year-old white guy in the chest with a handgun following an argument on the busy CBD corner at 5:35 a.m. on 5.4.08. At that time the victim was reported as critical but stable at a local hospital. (The Times-Picayune reported that Bonds is wanted for murder in this case, but you know how they are with the facts. To our knowledge the victim has not died and Bonds is still charged only with attempted murder.)
A pair of eyewitnesses to the Canal Street shooting identified Bonds from photographs and a warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge of attempted murder. He's a little twerp: 5'5" tall, weighing 140 pounds.
Shooter's target back behind bars: To our knowledge, the 8th District didn't toot their own horn when they rearrested Bruce Jones--the citizen shooter's target--on 4.15.08 for attempted armed robbery.
After Jones made the rather paltry $6,000 bond the next day and got out of jail, 8th District detectives decided he was a suspect in the attempted armed robbery of the Compac convenience store at Dauphine and St. Louis streets on 3.24.08 and issued a warrant for his arrest. They quietly hauled him in on 4.15.08 and now he sits in OPP on $35,000 bond.
